Five Ideas for Self Care When Everything Feels Like Too Much.

This past year has been… to put it mildly, stressful. We understand (because we’re self-help junkies) that taking care of ourselves is like uber important at times like these. –or all the time because you know…stress! And while we would never deny one a glass of wine or a Xanax or whatever else helps you keep calm we’ve come up with a few other ways to help get through days like these!

So we realized some of our ideas needed to be shared sooner. NOW. STAT. You’re welcome 🙂

  1. Do Your Nails

Nothing says self love like an at home manicure. And it’s a way to get off a screen for a minute.
We recommend: Priti NYC and Faculty polish. Both are 10 free*, vegan, cruelty and gluten free.

*10-free means that they do not contain dibutyl phthalate, TPHP, toluene, xylene, ethyl tosylamide, camphor, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, parabens, and tert-butyl hydroperoxide. These chemicals can give your manicure that smooth finish but can also lead to headaches, dizziness, reproductive abnormalities and cancer.

2. Dance Dance Dance

We’ve all heard it before: when you are fighting depression, anxiety or anger nothing helps get rid of it like moving. But for us, the best way to move is to dance dance dance! This is tricky when you have to keep 6 feet between you and your fave dance partner and the clubs are closed.

What we recommend:
Daybreaker A morning dance party that will start your day with energy and intention. It’s women owned and alcohol free and often has a yoga component as well. Started in person, it now has Zoom meetings but it looks like it’s expanding.

Obefitness As their name suggests, ObeFitness has alot more on offer than just dance classes. Hands down it’s the No Kill Mag team’s favorite online workout site. And it’s really affordable. Endless classes. Pre-recorded and live with the sweetest instructors around.

4. Take a bath

Hydrotherapy has been practiced for centuries as a form of relaxation and we completely agree there’s nothing better than a good soak to forget your troubles. Adding Bath Salts like 100% Pure’s Lavender Sea Therapy can help replenish, nourish, and detoxify body and soul. Follow that up with Plaine Products Beauty Oil A premium, deeply moisturizing oil, it can be applied to face, body, and hair. It will moisturize the skin and works well to diminish the appearance of scars, wrinkles, and fine lines due to its rich antioxidant ingredients and essential fatty acids. And like all Plaine Products it comes in a refillable metal bottle.

5. Write a letter

Mom always said the best cure for feeling sorry for ourselves was to think about someone else. So we’ve decided to try our hand at old fashioned letter writing. And there are so many handmade stationary to choose from. We found these on Etsy: Ecofriendly Dandelion writing paper and handprinted bee prints.
