Caroline Zimbalist’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection continues her innovative exploration of biomaterials, blending fashion and environmental consciousness. Inspired by landscapes, water, and flora, her designs push the boundaries of traditional textiles by incorporating softer, more flexible bioplastics into eveningwear. These plant-based components offer a sustainable alternative to synthetics, creating garments that are not only eco-friendly but also fluid and wearable.
Zimbalist’s collection draws from nature’s beauty, transforming her garments into living, breathing works of art. Soft pastels and vibrant hues combine with petal-like fabrics and tulle, mimicking the delicate forms of flowers. The collection is a response to the environmental crisis, with each piece representing her vision of a world where fashion and nature coexist. “I see our effects on nature and its inhabitants and try to imagine man-made replications of what we are losing. The biomaterial I use is an idea of the marriage between plant components and the plastic that is taking its place.” she says, capturing the essence of her mission.
In addition to the garments, Zimbalist’s collection introduced a line of sculpted accessories, including bioplastic buttons and collaborations with Melissa and Edie Flower on bioplastic shoes and rings. These pieces emphasize her commitment to sustainability, blending art and function. Through her work, Zimbalist redefines evening wear and challenges how we think about the materials we wear, pointing towards a future where fashion aligns with the natural world.
