Copenhagen Fashion Week’s NEWTALENT AW25: Emerging Sustainable Fashion Designers to Watch

Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) has long been at the forefront of sustainable fashion, and the upcoming AW25 season, scheduled for January 27-31, 2025, is no exception. This year’s lineup showcases a mix of established Nordic brands and exciting emerging talents, all committed to pushing the boundaries of sustainable design.

What’s Different This Year

The departure of some key brands has paved the way for a more diverse lineup. New participants such as Swedish brand Filippa K and Icelandic outerwear label 66°North are making their debut. Additionally, the relaunch of the skate-derived streetwear brand ALIS and Astrid Andersen’s new line, Stel, are generating buzz.

CPHFW NEWTALENT Program

The CPHFW NEWTALENT initiative continues to be a globally leading platform for spotlighting the next generation of Nordic talent. This season, four emerging designers will be featured in the NEWTALENT showroom:

As the latest addition to the NEWTALENT program, Bonnetje is generating significant buzz. Founded by Anna Myntekær and Yoko Maja Hansen in 2021, this young label explores “the beauty of dressing” through innovative upcycling techniques. Their AW25 collection is expected to showcase reimagined suits, dress shirts, and tailored pieces, with a focus on sustainable materials and production methods

Alectra Rothschild’s brand, Masculina, is rooted in the principles of meticulous craftsmanship, elegant femininity, and unapologetic high glamour. This brand brings a unique perspective to sustainable fashion, blending avant-garde design with eco-conscious practices.

Sustainability at the Core

Copenhagen Fashion Week continues to lead the way in sustainable fashion events. The AW25 season marks a pilot phase for the newly revised Sustainability Requirements framework, with participating brands testing and implementing these standards before they officially take effect later in 2025. Their guidelines have recently been adopted by both Berlin Fashion Week, and the British Fashion Council/London Fashion Week. (Sadly, New York Fashion Week/the Council of Fashion Designers of America seem to be taking their cue more from the White House than the fashion world when it comes to environmental responsibility.)

But I digress! As Cecilie Thorsmark, CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week, stated, “It is through the ongoing dedication of our brand community and wider network that we are able to grow and pave the way for a more positive future in fashion”. The upcoming CPHFW AW25 promises to be an exciting showcase of emerging sustainable talent, demonstrating that the future of fashion can be both stylish and environmentally conscious.
