Personal Style Advice: Dress in whatever makes you comfortable and shows personality. I often dress how I feel. It also helps to have accessories…. a small pair of earrings can drastically change an outfits mood. Don’t be afraid to play and combine unusual pieces.
Style icon:
I really don’t have a style “icon”,however people like Zendaya, Iris Apfel, Hillary and Ashley (Fresh Prince of Belair ) and Rihanna, of course–because, she’s a Barbadian boss–have influenced my style. As an artist, fashion that shows some creative eccentricity is key.
Story behind garment you’re styling: The dress is a simple vintage crochet dress my mom gave me, I love it because it’s somewhat formfitting, and a little flirty in-a-good-old fashion girl kind of way. It’s almost timeless.
All 3 looks were styled to produce different “colored” characters or moods by utilizing a vintage dress . My friend in fashion took the photos @KkennethJohn
LOOK ONE: Easy casual evening out
Vintage crocheted dress, my mother’s crochet sandals, grandmother’s pearl necklace and a hat that’s embellished with pearls. I tend to keep garments for a very long time and, depending on my mood, simple and comfortable family events might catch me in something styled like this.
Look 2: Professor/Business casual
Neutral earthy and powerful. Adding a blazer and a statement piece like this hat from Scott and Stuckman Hats of New York transforms me into “A mature educated African-American female”. LOL You’re just in time for a Black history lesson!
Look Three: Sporty chic
I have been drawn to yellow lately. Thought I would make this look a little younger. Sweatshirt from Target, old Michael Kors sneakers and a beanie to keep my head warm…
