3 Days, 3 Ways with Rosie Mae
Name: Rose Mae Turner
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Occupation: Sustainable fashion creative & climate activist –specializes in sustainable swimwear design, textile art, editorial styling, and vintage archiving.
Style advice: Turn to the past for ways to update your style. I’m often inspired by editorial spreads in vintage magazines and runway shows from 40+ years ago. In fact, EVERYTHING I’m wearing for this feature is second-hand –vintage or thrifted!
Style Icon:
I love @LilMiquela even though she isn’t real, lol. Her wardrobe is epic and I hope to get my designs on her!
Generally I’m into street-style from around the world and I am obsessed with FRUITS @fruitsmag. I like the idea that literally anyone can be a street-style icon… and that you don’t have to have fame or fortune.
Story behind garment or why you chose it for this: I was antiquing about 6 months ago with my mom in Upstate NY. To be more specific we were exploring the town of Saugerties. I couldn’t believe my eyes… but the vendor in the back of the store had so many iconic designer pieces that had all been marked down. That is when I found these amazing Ann Demeulemeester vintage pinstripe pants! The fabric is really high quality. I did have them hemmed locally and they fit much better. I also had been wanting to own something from Demeulemeester.
If you didn’t know, Ann Demeulemeester is a Belgian fashion designer whose eponymous label, Ann Demeulemeester, is showcased regularly in Paris Fashion Week. She is part of the iconic Antwerp Six in the fashion industry.
