This WorldPride, Washington D.C. is turning the volume up on fashion, self-expression, and sustainability with PRISM at Anthem Row—a two-weekend celebration where queer culture meets climate consciousness and style knows no bounds. Running May 31–June 1 and June 7–8, this free, all-ages event hosted by the DowntownDC BID is not just a party, but a vision of what fashion can be when we dare to dream differently.
Why We’re Paying Attention
No Kill has always stood at the intersection of style and sustainability. So when we heard PRISM would include a clothing swap, upcycled fashion runway show, and a maker’s market filled with circular style solutions, we knew this was worth spotlighting. PRISM is more than a Pride event—it’s a proof of concept for a better way forward in fashion.
As Patrick Duffy, founder of Global Fashion Exchange, puts it:
“PRISM at Anthem Row is more than just a celebration; it’s an opportunity to educate the public about sustainable fashion, art, and self-expression in a truly fun and engaging way. We’re thrilled to present such a diverse range of activities that will inspire and delight.”
Swap for Your Life: Pride Meets Circular Fashion
Clothing swaps are one of the most joyful, effective, and radically accessible tools we have to combat waste—and PRISM does it right.
At the Swap For Your Life, attendees are invited to bring up to five gently-used items on Saturday (May 31 or June 7) and return Sunday (June 1 or 8) to “shop” the curated selection using their earned swap credits. It’s not just good for your closet—it’s a way to reduce textile waste, extend garment life, and rethink consumption. Swaps like this celebrate fashion as community, not commodity.
Pro tip: Only clean, repairable, and stylish items are accepted, and if something doesn’t make the cut, recycling is offered as a last-resort option—keeping the spirit of sustainability intact.

How to Swap Like a Pro
Swapping is more than just a chance to refresh your wardrobe—it’s a way to rethink your relationship with fashion. Here’s how to do it right:
1. Curate with care
Bring only clean, stylish pieces in good condition. If you wouldn’t be excited to find it on a rack, leave it at home.
2. Edit intentionally
You can bring up to five items, so choose wisely. Statement pieces, versatile staples, and well-made accessories are always in demand.
3. Understand the guidelines
No underwear or swimwear. Minor flaws like a missing button are acceptable, but anything too damaged will be turned away. If an item isn’t accepted, you can either take it back or have it responsibly recycled.
4. Pay attention to timing
Bring your items on Saturday to earn credits, then return Sunday to swap. Arrive early for the best selection.
5. Stay open-minded
Swaps are about discovery. You may not find what you expected—but you might walk away with something even better.
6. Embrace the cycle
By giving garments a second life and skipping the checkout line, you’re making fashion more thoughtful. That’s something worth celebrating.
The ReFashion Show: Upcycled Style Takes the Runway
Let’s be honest: fashion shows are due for a rethink. PRISM’s ReFashion Show, happening May 31 from 8–9 p.m., does just that—putting upcycled and circular fashion center stage. Expect bold looks, big energy, and D.C.-based designers proving that sustainable fashion isn’t a compromise—it’s a flex.
This is a celebration of local creativity, queer excellence, and the power of redesigning what already exists.
Beyond the Swap and the Runway
From drag Zumba to a sustainable makers market, from panels on fashion and queer culture to art installations that cast literal rainbows, PRISM at Anthem Row is designed to engage, educate, and ignite. You’ll also find:
- PRISM SPEAKS panel series on sustainability, fashion, and identity
- Hands-on workshops in styling, mending, bedazzling and more
- Signature cocktails and DJs at the Drag Bar
- A Vogue Dance Party hosted by nightlife icon Kevin Aviance
- Special appearances from Danny Franzese, Saad Amer, and other change-makers
Come for the Pride. Stay for the Revolution.
At a time when fast fashion feels inescapable, PRISM offers something different: a space where style, sustainability, and self-expression come together in a way that’s actually joyful. Whether you live for the runway, care about the planet, or just want to be around people who show up as their fullest selves, this is the kind of event that reminds you what fashion can be.
