READ: In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado

This is a memoir like no other. Carmen Maria Machado weaves you through her story of abuse and heartbreak in a same-sex relationship in beautifully poetic prose. As abuse in queer relationships is not often discussed, Machado carefully unpacks the reality of it.

From the publisher:

For years Carmen Maria Machado has struggled to articulate her experiences in an abusive same-sex relationship. In this extraordinarily candid and radically inventive memoir, Machado tackles a dark and difficult subject with wit, inventiveness and an inquiring spirit, as she uses a series of narrative tropes—including classic horror themes—to create an entirely unique piece of work which is destined to become an instant classic.

The very anticipated season three is out now (with the announcement that it is being renewed for a fourth too). If you haven’t watched the first two seasons yet it is beyond time to –this is arguably one of the best teen shows out right now.

Synopsis:
Socially awkward high school student Otis may not have much experience in the lovemaking department, but he gets good guidance on the topic in his personal sex ed course — living with mom Jean, who is a sex therapist. Being surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis has become a reluctant expert on the subject. When his classmates learn about his home life, Otis decides to use his insider knowledge to improve his status at school, so he teams with whip-smart Maeve to set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their classmates’ problems.
