Red Carpet Green Dress sustainable design contest –no sewing skills needed!

Every Red Carpet Season we see dresses upon dresses made to drop jaws and cover our Instagram feeds.  Outside of being beautiful, are they sustainable?  Red Carpet Green Dress, or RCGD, challenges designers to create looks that advocate for sustainability and longevity within the global fashion industry.  Created by Suzy Amis Cameron, RCGD aims to draw attention to sustainable practice and develop solutions.  Styling Actors and Popstars in looks that positively impact the world.  We are love to see stars like Emma Roberts, Zoey Deutch, Sophie Turner, and Laura Harrier participating with RCGD with their stylists and designers to publicly advocate for better fashion industry.   At No Kill Mag, we stand with Red Carpet Green Dress and what they stand for, and we are beyond excited to give you all the details on this year’s RCGD Global Design Contest!

The  RCGD Global Design Contest 2021 was created by RCGD in partnership with TENCEL™ and Clo and is a large-scale sustainable contest for young and established designers, 18 and older, to experiment with Design Technology.  This contest started on July 30th and closes on 23rd August at 5 PM PT.  Two Winners will be provided with various prizes, including the opportunity to dress prominent talent in the fashion and media industry for a high-profile red carpet moment.  The winners will also receive a chance to present their work to an audience of sustainability leaders and innovators, 1000 dollars, one on one time with RCGD Campaign Founder Suzy Amis Cameron as well as business mentorship with RCGD CEO Samata Pattinson, and last but not least, an invitation and paid trip to LA to join the 2021 Red Carpet Green Dress™ Event!

To enter, designers are challenged to submit an original drawing or sketch of a red carpet-worthy gown or suit that aligns with this year’s theme: “Circularity, Regeneration, and Decarbonisation.”

Anyone can compete, and you don’t have to make the clothing for your submission! Actually, you technically don’t even need to know how to sew.  The RCGD wants the design plan, the look, the colors, and, if you chose, a detailed description of the materials you would plan to use to create your design.  This is because the RCGD is partnering with Tencel™ and Clo to complete your strategy based on your drawings and plans. Clo is a 3D patternmaking and 3D model program for designers to use to create designs on a computer to translate directly into reality, and Tencel™ will provide the proper materials to construct the garment.  This is to avoid making any extra waste.  So only the winning Suit and Gown will be officially built and brought to life on the red carpet.

We cannot wait to see who wins and the beautiful gowns and suits that walk the red carpet. The Judges include founder Suzy Amis Cameron herself, as well as celebrity stylist Micaela Erlanger, Harold Weghorst, and Studio 189 co-founder Abrima Eriwah.   If you or someone you know loves to design, read more here on entering and check out the Terms and Conditions! And again, you don’t even need to sew a dress!  All you need is a killer design to compete in this contest and win an expense-paid trip to LA!
