One of the best ways to be a more conscious consum One of the best ways to be a more conscious consumer is to purchase less, and choosing a garment that is made-to-order is a huge step toward tackling our habit of over-consumption. If a garment is made-to-order it requires the customer to purchase it before any production has begun and often takes up to 3-4 weeks to receive it which forces us to slow down.

Made-to-order pieces can allow complete customization of size, color, and silhouette and therefore are extremely inclusive to all body shapes and sizes. It is also an incredible tool for sustainability, as the delay in production means brands are producing only what is needed, eliminating waste and lowering their overall carbon footprint. PLUS many made-to-order brands opt into using deadstock fabric which is leftover fabric left over from previous collections, or other companies. Now, keep sliding to discover the 5 brands that offer made-to-order jeans.

In case you missed the news: Last year, Thinx rece In case you missed the news: Last year, Thinx received preliminary approval on a deal to settle a class-action lawsuit against the company after a string of claims and independent research alleged that its signature underwear, which had long advertised itself as “organic, sustainable, and non-toxic,” actually contained per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, harmful chemicals linked to fertility issues, environmental pollution, and certain cancers. This week, an official settlement website went live, https://www.thinxunderwearsettlement.com/ inviting customers who purchased the brand’s underwear between November 12, 2016, and November 28, 2022, to submit claims for compensation. For its part, Thinx denies the allegations against their product, insisting the company did nothing “improper or unlawful” and that PFAS “are not intentionally added to Thinx Period Underwear at any stage of production.”

We're resharing this from @thousand_fell because w We're resharing this from @thousand_fell because we love this initiative so much. Good materials used to create a t-shirt with proceeds going to a good cause. Imagine if all creative collabs were like that?

THEIR CAPTION:
When we started working on this project, we knew we wanted all proceeds to go to an organization that is using their resources to make an invaluable change in the fashion waste crisis landscape.

The Or Foundation is a USA and Ghana-based not-for-profit organization that has been working between the two countries at the intersection of environmental justice, education and fashion development since 2009.

The Or Foundation has brought global awareness to fashion’s waste crisis through extensive research into the secondhand clothing trade as it manifests in Accra, Ghana, home to the largest secondhand clothing market in the world.

The Or Foundation leads a consortium of Ghanaian organizations working to pilot fiber-to-fiber textile recycling in Ghana, which includes supporting small farmers throughout the region to source regenerative virgin inputs as necessary, and is writing the EU-sponsored roadmap for circular textiles in Ghana.

All proceeds from the collaboration are going to the Or Foundation. Follow @theorispresent to learn more about their work and how to get involved.
