Christian Lacroix is a designer and a couture house known for its combination of luxury and insouciance.
Oscar Wilde loved both of these things…as do we.
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken
Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination
I have grown to love secrecy. It seems to be the one thing that can make modern life mysterious or marvelous to us. The commonest thing is delightful if only one hides it.
I am tired of myself tonight. I should like to be somebody else.
Hear no evil, speak no evil, and you won’t be invited to cocktail parties.
Live! Live the wonderful life that is in you!
Let nothing be lost upon you.
Be always searching for new sensations.
Be afraid of nothing.
These clothes are from the collection of Joanna Semel Rose, a woman of unique style who passed away last year at 90. A noted philanthropist and patron of the arts, she loved Christian Lacroix for the boldness and originality of his designs. Regarding her extensive array of couture, she would say, “I’m not a collector, I’m a treasure hunter. I buy only what I like and for no other reason.”
