Style Advice

Wear what makes you happy. I always try to channel my inner child when getting dressed because her style makes me the happiest.

Style Icon

My style icon is my mom. Without her guidance and the freedom she gave me to express myself through fashion as a young child, I do not think my personal style would be where it is today.

Why I picked these jeans to style

When my father passed away in 2021, I inherited some of his clothes. Of those clothes were his 501s. You can easily see that they were his favourite; from the oil stains from times he’d spent trying to fix things, to the crotch rips he’d tried mending. I wasn’t able to wear them because they were 7 sizes too big, but this year I had the privilege of going to the Levi’s Haus of Strauss Africa and the team tailored the jeans for me.

We decided to cuff the jeans instead of cropping them “to show your father really walked this earth” noted William the master tailor. I didn’t necessarily decide to wear them for this challenge, they’ve just become my favourite jeans to wear. I wear them almost everyday.

Look One

This day I really wanted to wear as much pink as possible because it’s one of my favourite colours, but it’s also a bit chilly in South Africa at them moment so I decided to wear this ski jacket I thrifted in the Piles in Johannesburg. I paired it with this summer dress from Rixo London over my preloved jeans. The sneakers are Adidas gazelles which seem to be my go-to.

Look Two

I wanted to wear this dress from South African luxury sustainable brand, Sindiso Khumalo, but since it’s still chilly despite the sun shining, I decided to pair it with this quilted jacket I thrifted at a local thrift store called BetterHalf. And then for more warmth I wore my jeans under the dress.

Look Three

The temperature was high enough this day to get away with wearing a silk cardigan I thrifted from a local charity store. I paired it with a tank top from South African slow fashion brand, Sleeper. And wore my preloved jeans and gazelles. This was a pretty minimal outfit that I wore just around the house.
